laiyang countyanti-japanese democratic government was set up in beishankou village,maliangzhuang town in may 1940, subordinated to jiaodong administrative office.after laidong county was separatedfrom.laiyang county in february 1941,laiyang county (traditionally called as laixi county) governed the fifth,sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth division of the original laiyang county.laixinan administrative office was separatedfrom.laiyang county in july 1942,subordinating to nanhai jurisdiction area. it was in august 1943 that laiyangcounty, laidong administrative office and laixinan administrative office werereassigned into xihai jurisdiction area. in november 1944, laiyang county wasreturned to nanhai jurisdiction area. laiyang county governed 12 districts,while laixinan county governed 10 districts until in august 1945. inmarch 1950 laiyang and laixinan counties were merged into one laixi county, whichgoverned 836administrative villages, with the whole region being dividedinto 22 districts and 1 town. in february 1952, the county was divided into 18districts and 176 towns. while in may 1958 the districts were abolished, andthe county was divided into 27 townships and 1 towns. and in the same year, thetowns and township were abolished, while 22 people’s communes were set up. inoctober 1958, laixi and laiyang counties were merged until in january 1962. separatedfrom.laiyang county, laixi country governed 11 people’s communes, whichincluded hetoudian, maliangzhuang, nanshu, rizhuang, yuanshang, dianbu,sunshou, xiagezhuang, jiangshan, niuxibu, shuiji. in the same year, 5 people’scommunes were added, which included wangcheng, liquanzhuang, wubei, yuanli,tangjiazhuang. and in 1963, another 5 people’s communes, zhougezhuang, raoling,nanlan, pumu, shaocunzhuang, were added. in 1972, nanshu people’s commune wasseparatedfrom.heliwujia people’s commune, so up to then there were 22 people’scommunes in the county. in january 1982, shuiji people’s commune was renamed asshuiji town. in october 1983, laixi was reassigned to be under administrationofqingdaocity.after people’s communes was renamed as towns and townships in april 1984, therewere 8 towns (shui, nanshu, hetoudian, rizhuang, yuanshang, xiagezhuang,wangcheng, jiangshan) and 14 townships ( niuxibu, heliwujia, malianzhuang,liquanzhuang, wubei, yuanli, tangjiazhuang, raoling, zhougezhuang,yuncunzhuang, pumu, dianbu, sunshou, nanlan) in the county, which governs 839natural villages. in february 1991, laixi county was granted city status, andin june 1992, laixi economic and technological development zone was set up. inoctober 1993, niuxibu, zhougezhuang, liquanzhuang, yuanli, pumu, sunshou,malianzhuang townships were granted town status. in august 1994, dianbutownship was granted town status, and meanwhileriverbank streetcommunity was set up. infebruary 1995, nanlan, tangjiazhuang, wubei townships were granted town status.in 1996, raoling township was granted town status. in december 1997,shaocunzhuang, heliwujia townships were granted town status, and the city wasdivided into 12 towns and 1 street community. in december 1998, shuiji andwangcheng townships were granted street community status. in january 2001,heliwujia, nanlan, pumu, tangjiazhuang, yuanli, raoling towns andriverbank streetcommunity were abolished, while shaocunzhuang, zhougezhuang towns were grantedstreet community status. in march 2002, laixi economic and technologicaldevelopment zone was renamed laixi economic development zone. in jun 2003,niuxibu town was grantedhegu streetcommunity status, shaocunzhuang andzhougezhuang streetcommunities were renamed as meihuashan andlongshui streetcommunities respectively.in december 2007,meihuashan streetcommunity was replaced bychanzhi streetcommunity. in may 2012 liquanzhuang town was abolished, with its originaladministrative region being merged intojiangshantown.in december2012 chanzhi streetcommunity was abolished.guhe streetcommunity and sunshou town were merged intonew guhe streetcommunity. yuanshang and wubei towns were merged into new yuanshang town.laixin city is now divided into 8 towns, 3 street communities, 1 province-leveleconomic development zone, governing 861 administrative villages and 29 communityresidents“ committees.
