there were people settled in laixi early in primitive clansociety.laixicitywas under jurisdiction of laiyi inthe shang dynasty and laizi state in the western zhou dynasty. it was underjurisdiction of jimo prefecture of qidong in the eastern zhou dynasty and qicounty in the qing dynasty.zoulucountywas established in 164 bc (the western handynasty) under jurisdiction ofjiaodongstate, whose relics is atguchengzhuang village,longshui streetcommunity now. it was under jurisdiction oftingcounty,donglaiprefecturein 37 ad (the eastern handynasty). it waschangyangcountyunder jurisdiction ofbeihaistatein 59 ad. in 470 ad (the northern wei dynasty), it wascalled changguang county, whose relics is at thesoutheastern changqing mountain, guhe street community. in 596 ad (16th year ofthe reign of emperor wen of sui, the first emperor of sui dynasty),luxiangcountywas set up at the formerzoulucounty.luxiangcountywas retracted in 627 ad (the tang dynasty) and merged intochangyangcountyunder jurisdiction of laizhou.from.923 ad to 926 ad, (tongguang era of latertang’s emperor zhuangzong)changyangcountywas renamedlaiyangcounty,under jurisdictions of laizhou till the song dynasty and the jing dynasty. inthe yuan dynasty, it was under jurisdiction ofyiduprefectureandbanyangprefecturelater, and ofdengzhouprefecturein the ming dynasty and theqing dynasty. in 1912 (the first year of the republic of china),laiyangcountywas under jurisdiction ofjiandongprefecture.laiyangcountywas under jurisdiction of no. 8prefecture in may 1928. on may 14, 1940, the laiyang anti-japanese democraticgovernment was set up which was under jurisdiction ofjiaodongprefecture.in feb. 1941, laiyang county was separatedfrom.laidong county (originallycalled prefecture), while inoct.laiyangcounty(originally called prefecture) was separatedfrom.laixinan county underjurisdiction ofnanhaiprefecture. in august1943, it was under jurisdiction ofxihaiprefectureand was again underjurisdiction ofnanhaiprefecturein nov., 1944.in may, 1950, laiyang and laixinan county were conbined as laixi county, andwere under jurisdiction oflaiyangprefecturein june. inoctober, 1958,laixicountyandlaiyangcountywere merged into one county,which was namedlaiyangcounty.laiyangcountywas divided into two counties, namely,laixicountyandlaiyangcounty, both of which were underjurisdiction ofyantaiprefecturein jan. 1962. inoct. 1983,laixicountywas under jurisdiction ofqingdaomunicipality.laixicitywas established in feb. 1991.
